Now that school is back in session, and moms have some semblance of sanity back, let’s chat about really making the most of these school year weekends! Our friends over at MomsLA have a fantastic, comprehensive guide to sixteen locations and activities that are great for families.
If you’re looking for somewhere new to explore, and you want to get away, but not go too far, then consider Temecula – a place rich with history and lots of family-friendly activities.
Temecula Valley Museum

The Temecula Valley Museum offers families a look into Temecula’s past. Exhibits include documents, photographs, ranching and farming equipment, cultural artifacts, and more. Families can opt to explore on a self-guided tour or participate in a docent-led tour. One of their permanent exhibits features artifacts and photos related to Erle Stanley Gardner, the famous “Perry Mason” author who lived in Temecula. An interactive discovery area allows children to have fun in a “Dress Shop,” “Photographer’s Studio,” “General Store,” and a “Ride-a-Pony Station.” The Museum is closed on Mondays. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 each, or $10 per family. In addition, you’ll find a park and picnic area right outside the Museum.
Ronald Reagan Sports Park
30875 Rancho Vista Rd,. Temecula, CA 92595
Within the 128-acres of the Ronald Reagan Sports Park, families will find many ways to spend a day. The Park includes a community center, barbecues, picnic tables, a children’s play area, 2 football/soccer fields, and ball fields. The park is also the site of special events throughout the year, including summer concerts and holiday celebrations.
Temecula Lanes

You’ll find 20 lanes at Temecula Lanes, a popular bowling spot in Temecula. Be sure to check the website before visiting, because they offer different specials on different days of the week. For instance, take advantage of “Double Take Thursdays” (when games are buy one, get one free all day). They also have an on-site grill offering pizza, nachos, fries, and chicken strips among other snacks.
Pala Community Park
44900 Temecula Lane, Temecula, CA 92592
The Pala Community Park has everything you need for a fun-filled day at the park. You’ll find volleyball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, a football/soccer field, and a children’s play area. There are also barbecues, covered picnic areas, and on-site restrooms as well.
