18 Apr OUTDOOR BALLOON GAMES FOR KIDS
The sun is shining, the weather is perfect, and yet sometimes it can feel like pulling teeth to get your kids excited about spending time outside. If you’re looking to switch things up with how your kids enjoy the outdoors then check out these five fun-filled games!
Water Balloon Pinatas
Making or setting up a real paper mache or cardboard pinata can be taxing. If you have the perfect pinata tree in your yard then this sunny day game was designed for you! Fill 4-5 water balloons and tie them to a branch with string. Each child takes a turn attempting to break the water balloon with a bat or stick. Instead of candy they’ll get soaked if they don’t move in time! You can also do one balloon at a time on a stick, pole, or broom handle.
Backyard Balloon Hockey
Each team of 2-3 gets a laundry basket goal and each player gets a pool noodle hockey stick. Set the goals at least 20 feet apart the players have to work together. Instead of a ball use a balloon! The players use their pool noodles to direct and pass the balloon towards their opponent’s laundry basket. If they make it in they get a point! Whoever gets to 5 first – wins!
Water Balloon Shape Hunt
Classic water balloon fights can be over within a few short minutes so if you want to extend the life (and fun) of your water balloons then try this! Once you’ve filled the water balloons draw a shape on the balloon using a permanent marker. Each child is assigned a shape and gets a bucket with a corresponding shape drawn on a card attached to the bucket. Hide the water balloons throughout the backyard! The kids can only collect the water balloons they find with their shape. Once all the balloons have been found — let the water balloon fight begin!
Balloon Race
Designate a starting line and a finishing line. All players line up at the start with a balloon between their legs. The goal is the make it across the finish line first without breaking the balloon. You could also play this with water balloons while wearing your swimsuits!
Milk Jug Balloon Toss
Cut a hole in the top portion of 2 plastic milk jugs, big enough to easily fit a water balloon. Each child gets one milk jug and the pair gets a water balloon. Standing a few feet apart, the pair tosses and catches the water balloon using the milk jugs. Following each successful toss the pair takes a step back until eventually – someone gets splashed!
